Much to my annoyance, Woodworth didn’t go away. I really did hope that he would, but given his pre-Xmas efforts to reignite the “debate” on women’s rights failed, he’s back for some more.
“Don’t accept any law that says some human beings are not human beings! [...] It’s because each of you is a journalist! At some point in your life you made a personal commitment to the truth! At least that’s what we expect of you! Has anyone here abandoned their commitment to the truth?” And so he rages in his zealotry.
There’s something that makes me feel particularly unsettling about this particular pro-life, anti-woman creep. Let’s see. Is he:
- white? Check.
- Male? Uh-huh.
- Religious? Duh. (“In 1978, Mr. Woodworth co-founded the Christian Legal Fellowship, whose members are today ‘working together to proclaim, love, and serve Jesus Christ through all that we do in the practice of law’).
Woodworth, in other words, is an upper-class, religious, privileged pro-lifer: “Woodworth admits women are people, but apparently doesn’t think we can decide for ourselves what functions we wish our female bodies to generate.”
